''Direcția asistată electric oferă un feedback bun, în stilul caracteristic modelelor Volkswagen.'' Nu am intalnit niciun model VW la care directia sa ofere vreun feedback. E un punct slab la toate modelele.

Volkswagen ID. Buzz: sustainable, with plenty of attention to detail

image.thumb.png.7e838f0e26c197a99f8aa82fa2897ef5.png

The official world premiere of the all-electric ID. Buzz is set to take place at 7 p.m on Wednesday, 9 March. It will be launched on the market in two versions – as a bus and as a cargo version. The all-electric edition of the legendary cult-status Microbus has been fully rethought and redesigned. The spacious and versatile interior impresses with its colour scheme, sustainable materials and ingenious ideas.

Compact on the outside, spacious on the inside: ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo – whether you choose the bus or cargo version, both models utilise the space extraordinarily well thanks to the space-saving MEB concept. The five-seater ID. Buzz provides space for 1,121 litres of luggage even with all passengers on board. The maximum storage volume of the ID. Buzz Cargo, equipped with a partition behind the first row of seats, also amounts to more than 3.9 m3.

Two-tone, with plenty attention to detail. The ID. Buzz will be available in seven single colour options and four two-tone colour schemes. This combination of white and fresh colours is carried through to the interior, which incorporates style elements from the T1 generation and transfers them to the current era of electric mobility. The colours correspond to the exterior paintwork and are optionally reflected in the seat cushions, dash panel and door trim. Background lighting (optionally available with up to 30 colours) provides atmospheric accents. The attention to detail in the new model is also evident in a number of individual ID. Buzz motifs that decorate the interior in various places. Most of them are only discovered at second glance – even functional and intelligent features such as a bottle opener and an ice scraper can be found here.

image.thumb.png.23a7b8645a46c2d791907c7095652a23.png

Sustainable in all dimensions. The addition of the new ID. Buzz to the ID. family is another key step towards fully electrified mobility. This development is driven not only by stricter emission values but also by an increasing awareness of the environment and sustainability. Volkswagen is therefore committed to a holistic concept and transparency along the entire value chain. By 2030, it is aiming to cut carbon emissions in Europe per vehicle by 40 per cent and, following its Way to Zero, the company plans to be climate neutral by 2050 at the latest. At the heart of the Way to Zero is the expedited ramp-up of the electric mobility campaign under the new brand strategy ACCELERATE. By 2030, the brand aims to increase the share of all-electric models in total vehicle sales to at least 70 per cent in Europe and to at least 50 percent in North America and China.

image.thumb.png.6d410023e433f9f336293097e43c2c1b.png

The ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo additionally also fully reflect Volkswagen’s understanding of holistic sustainability. With the consistent use of appropriate materials, for example. Here, Volkswagen has implemented a package of technologies and processes to ensure that the two models are among the most sustainable product lines worldwide. Leather and other materials of animal origin do not feature at all and are replaced with substitute materials with similar properties and feel. The steering wheel rim is made of polyurethane but it has the same high-quality look as leather and a similar feel. The seat covers, floor coverings and headliner in the ID. Buzz are made using recyclates – materials made from recycled products. One fabric will be made of SEAQUAL® yarn, for example. Its threads consist of approx. 10 per cent marine plastic and approx. 90 per cent PES (recycled PET bottles). This allows a saving of 32% carbon emissions compared to similar products. The ArtVelours ECO upholstery used by the Group in the ID. Buzz for the first time also comprises 71% recyclates.

Give me a break

Că-n rest, va arăta fix cum o vezi.

Ceea ce vă dorim și dumneavoastră în garaje.

Dacă nu ești abonat la newsletterul ăsta, e momentul s-o faci. Ca să te anunț când se lansează mașina în versiunea de serie. E și păcat să pierzi momentul.

Cloud-based and with swarm intelligence: new software generation 3.0 with additional innovative boost for the ID. family
image.thumb.png.488f8e8649b6b94ce1cb207b5460f023.png

A new level of driving: with software generation 3.0, Volkswagen is adding a multitude of new functions to the all-electric ID. models, enhancing user experience and optimising charging capacity. By using swarm data and the most recent generation of driver assistance systems, Volkswagen is also taking the next step towards automated driving. As part of the ACCELERATE strategy, Volkswagen is forging ahead with its transformation to a software-oriented mobility provider – and is becoming an expert in software integration and over-the-air updates. The ID. family is pioneering the way. Buyers of new cars will benefit from the new software right away. For owners of cars that have already been delivered, Volkswagen plans to provide many of the optimisations of ID. Software 3.0 free of charge via an over-the-air update as of Q2.

“The new ID. Software 3.0 is an upgrade for our whole ID. family: we are taking our products to a new level of functionality because we are working faster, are more connected and are more customer-oriented,” says Thomas Ulbrich, Member of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand, responsible for Technical Development. “Again, we are living up to our claim of offering high-quality technologies and innovations in all classes.”

image.thumb.png.2786a69d0a6a07e3973109410f70fc01.png

Intelligent driver assistance systems, including “Travel Assist with Swarm Data”1. The optional “Travel Assist with Swarm Data”1 automatically keeps the vehicle in the centre of the lane. It adapts to the user’s driving style and can also drive further to the left or right of the lane instead of exactly in the middle. It can also maintain the distance from the vehicle in front and keep to the preset speed limit. The system has predictive cruise control and turning assistance. The vehicle speed can be adapted to local speed limits and road layouts (corners, roundabouts, etc.).

New at Volkswagen: With two radars at the rear and using ultrasound, the “Travel Assist with Swarm Data”1 can keep an eye on surrounding traffic and, at speeds of 90 km/h or more on the motorway, also actively support lane changes if desired. When activated, the lane change can be initiated and carried out by indicating. The prerequisite for this being that the sensors have not detected any objects in the surrounding area and the capacitive steering wheel can sense the driver’s hands. The vehicle will then steer itself into the desired lane. The driver can intervene at any time and take control of the manoeuvre.

image.thumb.png.f7ae83ffea22e3810924189c38f4fb75.png

If anonymous swarm data from other Volkswagens is available, the new “Travel Assist”1 can also provide support on roads where there is only one lane marking. The vehicle simply aligns itself with a detected lane boundary in order to stay in the lane, for example, on country roads without a central lane marking. Swarm data further increases the availability of “Travel Assist” and enhances comfort and support for the customer.

“Park Assist Plus”2. The smart assistant “Park Assist Plus”2 can search for a parking space after it has been activated in the parking menu (up to a speed of 40 km/h for suitable parallel parking spaces and up to 20 km/h for bay parking spaces) and complete the appropriate parking manoeuvre. If desired, the assistant can park autonomously with the help of the environment sensors, and take full control of the car, including steering, acceleration, braking and gear changes. For this, the driver stops at the selected parking space, applies the brake and activates the parking process via the start button in the parking menu. “Park Assist Plus”2 can also assist with parking manoeuvres that have already been started, by completing the process. It can also pull out of parallel parking spaces.

image.thumb.png.2d02120ce1b4f37850eda5088da0a834.png

“Park Assist Plus with Memory Function”2. Another convenient new feature for the ID. models is the optional “Park Assist Plus with Memory Function”2. Using this innovative driver assistance system, the vehicle can be taught up to five different parking manoeuvres. The memory function remembers parking manoeuvres at speeds below 40 km/h with a travel distance of up to 50 metres. For example, for parking in a carport or garage. The driver just has to park once and save the parking manoeuvre. The vehicle can then repeat the learned parking manoeuvre autonomously. The driver simply has to monitor the process.

New displays. ID. Software 3.0 also brings plenty of innovation to the displays and infotainment system. The optional “augmented reality head-up display”, which projects important information straight into the field of vision of the windscreen, has now been expanded to include additional displays in the long-distance zone: besides showing the optional “Travel Assist”1 assisted lane change, it also displays new symbols such as roundabouts and information on the distance to the destination. The turn arrows now appear much more integrated into the surroundings. In the ID. Cockpit, in addition to the remaining distance to the destination, the State of Charge (SOC) is also displayed as a percentage, next to a battery icon that shows the charge level. “We are in close contact with our customers via the ID. Drivers Club – for example, many of them wanted the percentage information, so we made it happen,” says Silke Bagschik, CMO of the ID. Digital project unit and Head of Sales and Marketing for the e-Mobility series.

image.thumb.png.41523f7ddb47e7ee5d474b9895deec70.png

The updated software also improves the optional navigation. It now locates the vehicle precisely in the lane within the system limits, which enables it to recommend changing lanes in good time at motorway junctions and exits. The corresponding indication for the lane change recommendation also appears in the ID. Light – the strip light under the windscreen. New functions have been added and it now also displays local hazard warnings. This service is based on Volkswagen’s Car2X technology: cars network directly and locally with each other via the WLANp radio standard. This enables them to notify each other of critical traffic situations, ranging from broken-down vehicles to ambulances, in real-time.

Optimised voice control. The voice control uses pioneering technology and brings performance to a premium level. It recognises voice commands much faster and more precisely, increasing both user-friendliness and driving comfort. Its natural language character makes the car an intelligent conversation partner. The customer starts the voice control either by touching the steering wheel or by saying “Hello ID.”. The system replies within a few seconds. In addition, the improved recognition quality of the voice control is now at around 95 percent. The system with its digital microphones also recognises whether the driver or the front passenger is speaking, and follows the instructions accordingly, for example, when it comes to dual-zone air conditioning.

image.thumb.png.f5159e1c395d5dcf8043e809b8f8a3bd.png

The voice control understands general phrases and colloquial questions and expressions (“Where is the nearest Japanese restaurant in Berlin?” or “I’m too warm”), asks questions where necessary and lets you interrupt. The system responds in two ways – online from the cloud and offline from the information stored in the car. The online process ensures a particularly high recognition rate and quality of results, even when searching for special destinations. Voice control is available in all ID. models on the German market, provided the We Connect Plus service is activated.

Charging the 77 kWh battery with a maximum of up to 135 kW3. The ID. Software 3.0 also has major benefits when it comes to charging. Models with the 77 kWh battery can now charge a maximum of 135 kW3 instead of 125 kW at a sufficiently powerful DC charging station. Improvements to the thermal management of the battery make driving even more efficient and can increase the range, especially in cold weather. Customers who want to conserve their battery can activate the new Battery Care Mode. It limits the SOC charge level to 80 percent.

Smart e-route planner. The charging menu, which now appears on the first screen of the large touch display of the ID. models is structured in a more informative and clear way. For long distances, the online route calculator in the navigation system creates a clever multi-stop route, which gets you to your destination as quickly as possible. It takes traffic and route data into account, as well as the desired SOC upon arrival at the final destination and interim destination. The charging stops are evaluated dynamically and are based on the output of the charging stations. As a result, the route planning may suggest two short charging processes with high power instead of a single long process with low power.

Digital customer experience is becoming a Volkswagen core competency. As the digitalisation of the automobile increases, new interfaces with customers are emerging both inside and outside the vehicle. With its ACCELERATE strategy, Volkswagen has aligned many processes even more closely with customer needs – from the early development phase of the cars, to the range of digital services and visits at service partners. Customer needs and feedback are to be incorporated even more heavily into all stages of vehicle and service development throughout the entire life cycle. This is making the integration of software in the vehicle and the digital customer experience Volkswagen's core competencies.

With its ACCELERATE strategy, the Volkswagen brand is adapting to the radical changes within the automotive industry early on and consistently. By 2026, the brand will have invested around 18 billion euros in the future topics of e-mobility, hybridisation and digitisation. As part of its global electric offensive, Volkswagen will increase the share of all-electric cars in sales in Europe to over 70 percent. In the USA and China, the corporation is targeting an electric share of more than 50 percent in the same period. To this end, Volkswagen will promote at least one new BEV model each year. The objective being to fully electrify the range of models. Volkswagen is aiming to be net-zero climate-neutral by 2050 at the latest. The corporation is also accelerating the other major future topics: the integration of software in the car and the digital customer experience are becoming core competencies. Volkswagen is using data-based business models to access new customer groups and tap into new sources of revenue. And Volkswagen will make autonomous driving available to many people by 2030. In doing so, Volkswagen is strengthening its positioning as the most desirable brand for sustainable mobility.

Volkswagen delays launch of its electric SUV VW ID.5 due to cable harness shortage

Due to another shortage of a critical component, Volkswagen is forced to delay its planned April launch of the VW ID.5. The required cable harnesses sourced from Ukraine are, understandably, in short supply due to the ongoing military conflict.

image.thumb.png.59796abad6bc25a920a0f67b32a30a0f.png

Under normal circumstances, the German automaker Volkswagen was planning to launch its sleek electric hatchback SUV named VW ID.5 in the first week of April, and it even advertised a comparably short delivery time of just four months. However, the recent events in Ukraine have now forced the company to officially delay the debut of the highly anticipated ID.5.

According to a report by the German publication Automobilwoche, the Wolfsburg-based automaker had to push back the launch the VW ID.5 in Europe by an entire month, which means that the electric SUV is now scheduled to hit the European market in the first week of May. The main reason for this delay are the scarcely available cable harnesses that are usually imported from the aforementioned eastern European country, which unfortunately has to deal with much more serious issues these days.

The by sales numbers largest European automaker has apparently already informed its German dealerships about the looming ID.5 delay in an internal memo. Purportedly, Volkswagen was not even able to produce an adequate number of demo and showroom vehicles due to aforementioned cable shortage, which means that no dealer will receive units of the electric SUV for the time being. Prospective buyers who now need to kill some time until the May launch of Volkswagen's latest EV may want to check out Volkswagen's official configurator, which allows you to configure all model variants including the ID.5 Pro, ID.5 Pro Performance and ID.5 GTX.

The new ID.5 achieves highest score in the Euro NCAP driver assistance test

The latest ID.5 assistance technologies were rated "very good" and reached 4 out of 4 possible points - the highest possible score - in the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme). The testers were impressed by the innovative systems of the all-electric ID.5 highlighting maximum comfort and an excellent level of assistance. With the "Driver Assistance Test", Euro NCAP has expanded its test scheme beyond the classic crash test and introduced a structured evaluation and classification system in the area of comfort and assistance systems. Aiming to give consumers a realistic insight into the performance of state of the art assistance systems.

The additional test procedures in the area of vehicle assistance include a couple of critical motorway driving scenarios, such as typical cut-in and cut-out scenarios maneuvers, testing the systems efficiency in supporting the driver to avoid accidents. The "Assistance Competence"-test, assesses driver engagement, meaning how driver and system work together and how the system ensures that the driver remains engaged in the driving task. The "Safety Backup"- test evaluates the vehicle’s performance in avoiding collisions and mitigating the potentially incurred consequences of an accident. In its assessment, Euro NCAP emphasizes: “The VW ID.5 provides very good Vehicle Assistance with a similar level of Driver Engagement. Combined with excellent safety back-up, the system, overall, offers Very Good highway assistance.”

In the ID.5, Volkswagen uses innovative, fully connected assistance systems, the optional “Travel Assist with swarm data” being the best example. Within the limits of the system, it can actively keep the vehicle in lane and maintain both the distance to the vehicle in front and the maximum speed set by the driver. Among other things, the system uses the Adaptive Lane Guidance function which actively keeps the vehicle in the middle of the lane. However, "Travel Assist with swarm data" is able to adapt to the driving style and can also keep the vehicle on the right-or left-hand side of the lane.

image.thumb.png.17d98a2c226b5e5e0c6edfa88f24f9b9.png

On the motorway, the "Travel Assist with swarm data" can optionally provide active support when changing lanes at speeds of 90 km/h and faster. If activated, the lane change can be started and executed by tapping the indicator stalk. Provided that the sensors detect no vehicle in the car’s surroundings and that the capacitive steering wheel recognizes the driver’s hands the vehicle then automatically initiates the overtaking maneuver and changes lanes. The driver can intervene and take over the control of the car at any time.

The assistant also is equipped with predictive speed control and cornering assistance. The vehicle speed can be adjusted to the applicable speed limits and the course of the road (curves, roundabouts, etc.). Given that anonymised swarm data from other Volkswagen is available, the new "Travel Assist with swarm data" can also provide support on roads with only one lane marking, - for example on country roads without a centre lane marking.

The "Travel Assist with swarm data" is now optionally available in Europe in all newly produced ID.models equipped with ID.Software 3.0. With this, Volkswagen is living up to its claim of making high-quality technology available in all vehicle classes.

Overall, numerous driver assistance functions were tested by Euro NCAP: These include standard features such as the emergency brake assistant "Front Assist" and the lane keep assist systems "Lane Assist". In addition, the optional comfort assistants such as Predictive ACC, Side Assist and Emergency Assist were assessed by the safety experts.

image.thumb.png.9c4d4d3d02e18ee0d736a8bac68b4a2b.png

Furthermore, Euro NCAP emphasizes the clear and intuitive displays, referring in particular to the augmented reality head-up display"[...]showing the system status in the driver’s direct line of sight ". In this way, customers can see at any time which systems are active or which system is currently supporting them.

Even back in March, the ID.5 was awarded the top rating of five possible stars in the renowned Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) safety test. The examiners rated the all-electric SUV coupé as excellent in all four test criteria - in the protection of adult passengers, children and vulnerable road users, as well as in terms of standard assistance systems.

Since 1997, the European New Car Assessment Program has served as a strict benchmark for the safety level of new cars. It provides automobile customers with up-to-date information on the safety of popular new models. In recent years, the test procedures and the requirements have been tightened and expanded. Golf R “20 Years” – anniversary model of the Golf R now available to order

image.thumb.png.40e827748cf96ea2c63b1f8fad0ee571.png

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Golf R, Volkswagen is launching the Golf R “20 Years” as an exclusive special-edition model. The production period limited to approximately one year makes the special-edition model a collector’s item as soon as it rolls off the production line. Like all premium performance models of the Volkswagen R with their increased power, the Golf R has its roots on the race track and stands for the transfer of innovative technologies to series production. Fan communities around the world are enthralled by the expressive design and enhanced performance. The new Golf R “20 Years” is now available to order with prices starting from 59,995 euros in Germany.

The Golf R “20 Years” surpasses everything that has been launched with the “Golf” label up to now with its drive technology. The anniversary model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds: the top speed is electronically limited to 270 km/h. The Golf R “20 Years” edition makes its exceptional nature known as soon as the engine is started. It is impossible not to notice the 245 kW / 333 PS) delivered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine. The driver can select an Emotion Start to activate an initial engine speed overshoot extending up to 2,500 rpm. In combination with especially striking drive acoustics, this additionally heightens the anticipation of a typical R driving experience.

When the driver shifts up manually in S and S+ gear selector positions, the DSG provides noticeable feedback from the gearbox and drive train each time the right paddle is operated. In addition, the optimised engine tuning means that the load change response is extremely spontaneous. The turbocharger is preloaded to keep it at a constant speed during part-load driving. This then allows faster power development for subsequent acceleration. The open throttle valve in overrun phases also improves dynamics and performance on the road. When the driver takes their foot off the accelerator and then accelerates again, this allows faster build-up of the engine torque and noticeably improves the engine’s responsiveness. This allows the Golf R “20 Years” to be driven even more dynamically and with a higher level of driving stability in sporty driving situations.

image.thumb.png.8f2a852efa2b609e6011bf5a6d2ee47c.png

The Golf R “20 Years” will be available as standard with the R Performance package already familiar from the Golf R (including, for example, R-Performance Torque Vectoring in conjunction with the Vehicle Dynamics Manager and two additional driving modes, Special and Drift) and will be further enhanced by exclusive design highlights. At the rear, the roof spoiler emphasises the sporty look of the vehicle, which is fitted as standard with 19-inch Estoril alloy wheels.

The sporty and exclusive nature of the premium performance brand from Volkswagen is also evident in the interior. For the first time in a production Volkswagen, the dash panel and door trim feature decorative trim elements in Genuine Carbon. The special-edition model sports blue R logos, including on the multifunction sport steering wheel (at 6 o’clock position). The blue R logo can also be found on the vehicle key cap to underline the fact that the key belongs to a special vehicle.

Like all Golf models, the Golf R “20 Years” will be produced in the Wolfsburg factory – the home of the Golf. The Golf R “20 Years” will reach dealerships in many European markets and North America from the middle of 2022.

The Golf R “20 Years” is the fifth edition of the extremely sporty Golf R. The success story of the model began in 2002 with the Golf R3204 and its 3.2-litre six-cylinder engine with an output of 177 kW (241 PS). It was the most powerful Golf that Volkswagen had built up to that point. Featuring all-wheel drive in combination with exclusive design and equipment, this highly dynamic car was the technological benchmark in its class. The Golf R32 was an immediate success, and its sales were triple the originally planned amount.

Volkswagen offers additional all-wheel drive version for the ID.4
image.thumb.png.99882a540b6d408eb34c6bf1fdc13c6e.png

Volkswagen is adding another all-wheel drive version to the all-electric ID.4 product line: the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION. Based on the ID.4 Pro Performance, the model has a system power of 195 kW/265 PS04 and offers more traction in wet conditions and when driving on snow or loose ground. Only the sporty ID.4 GTX 4MOTION flagship model was previously available as an all-wheel drive version. Presales for the new additional all-wheel drive version are starting today; prices in Germany are from 49,020 euros.

Thanks to a second electric motor on the front axle, the new more powerful variant of the Pro models transfers its power to the road by means of an all-wheel drive system. “With the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION, we are meeting customer wishes and the demand for an additional model with all-wheel drive system. It is positioned exactly between the efficient and comfortable ID.4 models with rear-wheel drive and the sporty ID.4 GTX 4MOTION flagship model,” explains Silke Bagschik, Head of Sales and Marketing for the ID. family.

The all-wheel drive technology in the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION improves traction and therefore makes it possible to achieve even better driving dynamics. The new model with dual-motor all-wheel drive system is also a powerful towing vehicle and is thus a reliable partner for towing smaller transport or boat trailers. Thanks to the all-wheel drive system, the maximum trailer weight of the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION is increased by 200 kilograms to 1,400 kilograms for an 8% gradient (braked) compared with the classic Pro Performance version.
The dual-motor all-wheel drive system in the ID.4 Pro 4MOTION. The two electric motors in the new 4MOTION model have a joint output of 195 kW (265 PS) and accelerate the vehicle from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. The main drive power is provided by the permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle. This delivers an output of 150 kW. It has an axially parallel layout with a pulse inverter and a single-speed gearbox. The advantages of the synchronous motor include its high power density, high efficiency and constant power output over a large rpm range. The front axle is driven by an asynchronous motor that also has a pulse inverter. This motor delivers an output of 80 kW. Asynchronous motors are characterised by their short-time overload capability and low drag losses. They are therefore ideally suited for use as a booster unit that can be activated temporarily.

The ID.4 Pro 4MOTION is equipped with a 77 kWh battery (net) and has a range of up to 517 kilometres (according to WLTP). The top speed is limited to 180 km/h like for the ID.4 GTX 4MOTION. As with the other ID.4 models, the maximum charging capacity is 135 kW. At a charging stop, the high-voltage battery can be charged from five percent to a charge level (SOC) of 80 percent in 36 minutes and then offers a range of a further 337 kilometres (according to WLTP).

The 4.58-metre-long ID.4 uses the architecture from the modular electric drive matrix (MEB) by Volkswagen. The room available in the vehicle interior is at the level of conventional SUVs in the next-higher category thanks to the efficient architecture. Depending on the position of the rear seat backrests, the luggage compartment boasts a capacity from 543 to 1,575 litres. Numerous latest-generation driver assist systems can also be optionally ordered.

Volkswagen on the Way to Zero. Following its market launch in spring 2021, the ID.4 has quickly become a success. Volkswagen delivered over 30,000 vehicles of this type in the first quarter of 2022 alone – this means that every second all-electric vehicle from Volkswagen is an ID.4. A total of 163,000 vehicles were delivered worldwide in 2021, making the ID.4 the best-selling electric vehicle of both the Volkswagen brand and the Volkswagen Group.

With the all-electric models produced in Zwickau and Emden (Germany), Volkswagen delivers to its customers only vehicles that have been manufactured in a carbon-neutral manner over the entire supply and production chain. The production of CO2 is avoided or reduced as far as possible in the manufacturing process – and the unavoidable emissions are compensated by climate protection measures. And if the ID. models are charged using sustainably produced electricity – such as Volkswagen Naturstrom – they also remain climate-neutral on the road.

New GTX models get more comprehensive standard equipment and a refined look

image.thumb.png.63aba11b65a7dd96ee165ad404326017.png

Volkswagen’s GTX brand stands for the sporty top-of-the-line models of the ID. family. The ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX models with dual-motor all-wheel drive – presented just last year – will now be equipped with even more comprehensive standard equipment to emphasise this claim. In addition, they provide a glimpse of the look of other GTX models with new design accents in black and red. In future, every ID. series will have its own GTX model. The ID.4 GTX from 53,255 euros and ID.5 GTX from 56,455 euros are already available for order.

Volkswagen has further enhanced the sporty GTX models. The previously optional equipment packages known as Design and Comfort have become standard equipment. They include a climate comfort windscreen, darkened side and rear windows, heated front seats, two USB-C interfaces, a variable centre console, the Air Care Climatronic air-conditioning system with active combination filter, stationary air conditioning and two-zone temperature control.

Black and red stand for GTX. The interior is also sporting some new features:The dash panel and door trim are now black. Red decorative seams throughout the interior visually emphasise its sportiness and can be found on the black leather steering wheel, among other places. The optional premium sports seats are also decorated with red seams, piping and logo, as well as a felled seam all the way around. But on the outside, black sets the accents: roof frame strip, C-pillar, exterior mirrors and diffuser now shine in glossy black. Glossy 21-inch rims in a black design are available on request. Together with the standard black roof paint and the darkened windows, this results in a progressive and at the same time elegant appearance.

GTX formula for success. The sporty GTX brand with its all-electric performance models has been part of Volkswagen’s portfolio for over a year. The dynamic vehicles combine electromobility, sustainability and intelligent sportiness. Their dynamic design also emphasises the special character and recognition value of high-quality GTX models.

“The success of the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX confirms our strategy of positioning the GTX brand independently. Both models in their respective series have installation rates of almost 40 percent,” says Silke Bagschik, Head of Sales and Marketing for the ID. family. “We will continuously expand this brand and offer a GTX variant for every ID. model in future – from the ID.3 to the ID. Buzz.”

Performance and everyday suitability thanks to the 4MOTION dual-motor all-wheel drive. The GTX models use two electric motors: one on the front axle and one on the rear axle. They have system power of 220 kW (299PS)05, offer a total torque of 460 Nm and work together as an electric drive. A permanently excited synchronous motor (PSM) with 150 kW (204 PS) of power and a torque of 310 Nm is active on the rear axle. An additional asynchronous motor (ASM) with 80 kW (109 PS) and 162 Nm is installed on the front axle. This is particularly compact and light, can be overloaded on a temporary basis and only produces minimal drag losses when it runs without being supplied with current. The vehicle’s top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h. The maximum trailer weight of both GTX models is 1,400 kilograms (for an 8 percent gradient), which is 200 kilograms more than the model versions with rear-wheel drive.

Vehicle dynamics manager with specially developed software. The intelligent control of the dual-motor drive of the ID.4 GTX and ID.5 GTX is handled by the vehicle dynamics manager. This software, developed in-house by Volkswagen, always aims to achieve the optimum combination of efficiency, dynamics and driving stability. The drive motor on the rear axle is often able to power the vehicle all by itself. As soon as the driver wants to shift to a sportier style or needs more traction, the asynchronous machine on the front axle is activated. This takes place in just a few fractions of a second and so smoothly that it is unnoticeable for the driver. Not only the powertrain, but also all braking, steering and chassis control systems are controlled by the vehicle dynamics manager, depending on the selected driving profile.

Electric mobility that’s even more customer-friendly. The ID.4 GTX offers a range of up to 500 kilometres (WLTP); the ID.5 GTX, on the other hand, 512 kilometres (WLTP). The maximum charging capacity of both models is 135 kW. The 77 kWh high-voltage battery can be charged from 5% to 80% in up to 36 minutes and then offers a range of 337 kilometres for the ID.4 GTX and 376 kilometres for the ID.5 GTX (both WLTP values). The intelligent Electric Vehicle Route Planner provides support for long journeys as the navigation system creates clever multi-stop route planning to get the car to its destination as quickly as possible. This is continuously adjusted while the vehicle is in motion – for example, there is no need for a short charging stop if the driver drives very efficiently.

Latest software generation and Plug & Charge: With the next generation of the ID. software the Plug & Charge function will also be available for the new GTX models, making charging on the go even more convenient. The vehicle automatically authenticates itself as soon as the customer plugs the charging cable into a compatible DC rapid-charging point and launches secure encrypted communication between the vehicle and the post. This authentication process takes just a few seconds before charging starts. Plug & Charge is already supported in many large charging infrastructures such as Ionity, Aral, BP, Enel, EON, as well as Iberdrola and Eviny. Further large providers will follow.

Volkswagen’s first fully-electric limousine: The ID. AERO is under starter’s orders
image.thumb.png.feba35a0f7bd221fe69d3886ed169b9e.png

The Volkswagen brand is looking into the future and releasing exclusive design sketches of the ID. AERO, the first fully-electric limousine for the Chinese automobile market. At first glance, the new concept car impresses with its outstanding aerodynamics, elegant design and generous space. The digital world premiere of the pre-production study will take place on Monday, 27 June, at 14:00 (CEST).

The future production version of the ID. AERO sees Volkswagen expand its successful ID. family in the high-volume upper-middle class segment, and accelerate its electric offensive within the framework of the ACCELERATE strategy. Like all models in the ID. family, the elegant new limousine is based on Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB). Stylistically, it also follows the unmistakable design language of the ID. family. For example, the exterior design of the ID. AERO is flowing and precise. Particularly striking features of the pre-production study are the aerodynamic front and roof, which help to reduce energy consumption and increase range.

The next world car for a new market segment. The production version of the ID. AERO is expected to go on sale in the Chinese automobile market in the second half of 2023. The corresponding production model for the North American and European market will be presented in 2023. Production of the series version of the ID. AERO for the European and North American automobile market will then start at the Volkswagen plant in Emden.

VW Hasn’t Abandoned ICE Development, Unveils New 1.5 TSI evo2

Ever since the messy Dieselgate, Volkswagen Group has pledged to clean up its tainted image by channeling most of its efforts into the development of electric vehicles. The MEB platform serves as the backbone of the zero-emissions assault, with the more sophisticated PPE arriving in 2023 for fancy Audi and Porsche products. That doesn't it has completely abandoned the good ol' combustion engine, as evidenced by a new gasoline unit introduced today.

As its name implies, the 1.5 TSI evo2 is an evolution of the group's 1.5-liter gasoline engine. The turbocharged four-cylinder mill has been made even more efficient by moving the three-way catalytic converter and petrol particulate filter in a single emission control module installed near the engine. Doing so has allowed VW to rely less on rare metals while allowing the company to be ready for stricter emissions regulations that will inevitably arrive later this decade in Europe.

Officially dubbed "Active Cylinder Management," the cylinder deactivation tech has now evolved into the ACTplus system. It offers a leaner transition from four to two cylinders and vice versa. In addition, the operating range has been extended as the second and third cylinders are not fired when the engine is operating at low and medium loads and speeds. VW pledges the "switchover is hardly noticeable" to ensure silky smooth operation.

The 1.5 TSI evo2 is initially offered in the T-Roc and T-Roc Convertible with 150 horsepower. It'll be added to other models, including plug-in hybrid models with a combined output of 272 hp. Chances are the next-generation VW Passat and equivalent Skoda Superb will get this PHEV powertrain once they'll debut sometime in 2023.

Even in a press release talking about a new internal combustion engine, VW wishes to remind us it projects EVs will account for 70 percent of all sales by the end of the decade. Since the complete switch to electric won't happen overnight, the remaining ICEs will be updated to meet Euro 7 regulations to sell cars in countries where ICEs remain popular. The German automaker admits the charging infrastructure hasn't matured enough in some regions; hence why conventionally powered vehicles are sticking around for the time being.
