Happy Birthday, Touran! – More than a family car for 20 years
image.thumb.png.85d5fd697e4c30a0436b226e79eccd9c.png

The Touran's success story continues: Volkswagen has upgraded the popular compact van and further improved its technology to the state of the art. The Touran celebrates its 20th birthday this year and continues to impress, thanks to a spacious and variable interior, efficient engines and agile handling. In addition to a wide range of standard safety systems, the optional IQ.DRIVE incl. IQ.LIGHT assist package now also includes the Travel Assist and the Dynamic Light Assist main-beam control.

"More than a family car" was the claim for the Touran market launch on 14 March 2003. The compact van is a multivariable family, leisure and business car with the best all-round characteristics. And, with more than 2.6 million units now sold, it is one of the most successful multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) in the world.

The second generation of the Touran was launched in 2015. It is VW's first van based on the Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB). This basis now enables the Touran to undergo extensive technical upgrading and model updating.

Numerous driver assistance systems on board

Standard features include Active Cruise Control (ACC) with speed limiter, Autonomous Emergency Braking Front Assist, Lane Assist lane departure warning and Side Assist lane change assist. This range of assistance and infotainment systems is usually only found in higher vehicle classes – thanks to MQB, they are also used in the Touran.

The standard equipment now includes, among other things, PreCrash at the rear. The system uses the sensor technology of the Side Assist lane change assist. Radar sensors detect the position and speed of cars behind the Touran. If PreCrash at the rear detects an imminent rear-end collision due to the position of the following vehicle and the excessive speed difference between the two vehicles, the proactive occupant protection system is activated – not only while driving, but also while stationary with the engine running or in start/stop mode.

A multifunction camera is also now on board every Touran to identify objects or people as quickly as possible. The camera is thus one of the most important components in the car when it comes to assist and safety systems .

In addition, the optional "IQ.DRIVE incl. IQ.LIGHT" package now includes, among other things, the Travel Assist2 driver assist system in conjunction with the Lane Assist2 lane departure warning. The system can assist in keeping the vehicle in lane, maintaining a distance from the vehicle in front and also ensuring that the vehicle keeps to a maximum speed set by the driver. Among other things, it uses the adaptive lane guidance system for this. This system actively keeps the vehicle in the middle of its lane. Travel Assist adapts itself to the driving style and can also keep the vehicle further left or right in the lane instead of exactly in the centre. In combination with the DSG dual-clutch gearbox, you can also stay relaxed when driving in traffic jams and stop-and-go traffic.

The Dynamic Light Assist main-beam control is also part of the new assist package and ensures better visibility at night. The system can detect oncoming vehicles as well as vehicles ahead and automatically fades out corresponding areas of the vehicle's main beam. When driving in built-up areas, the system also automatically switches from main beam to dipped beam. This is a convenient feature that helps to better illuminate the road and detect obstacles earlier.

Comfort also gets an upgrade

Volkswagen has not only upgraded the Touran in terms of assistance systems. The family van has also received an upgrade in terms of comfort: with a latest-generation steering wheel including contact detection, the freely programmable Basic instrument cluster (20.3 centimetres or 8 inches) and the air conditioner control console with touch controls at the front and rear (both optional). In addition, with optional functions such as Easy Open & Close (closing the trunk lid by foot movement) and Keyless Access (keyless locking and starting system), the Touran is also state-of-the-art in terms of user friendliness.

Even more efficient drives

Efficient drives are also available for the bestseller: among other things, Volkswagen has continued to develop its best-selling 1.5 TSI petrol engine and is now also using the latest generation in the Touran – the TSI evo2 with 110 kW / 150 PS. It enables consumption and CO2 savings and is also designed for fuels with renewable content. Furthermore, the latest version features Active Cylinder Management ACTplus, an emission control module close to the engine and the modern TSI-Evo combustion process.

image.thumb.png.61f63190a4ca8b6fe85d162c85fe76dd.png

Maximum suitability for everyday use for up to seven people

The Touran impresses with a large and multivariable interior – with five to seven seats, depending on customer preference. The enormous interior width is particularly appealing to families, with enough space for three child seats fitted side by side in the rear. Thanks to ISOFIX retaining rings in the second and third row of seats, a total of as many as five child seats can be securely attached to the Touran. The interior can be used in a variety of ways thanks to the fold-flat seating system (flat surface in the luggage compartment with the seats folded down), which allows for a storage volume of up to 1,980 litres. In addition, the 47 storage options and the drawers under the front seats fulfil almost every storage desire.

In terms of steering and running gear, the Touran impresses with the handling of a Golf.It is agile, the steering is sensitive, the optional adaptive running gear (DCC) ensures a high level of driving comfort and the turning circle is only 11.6 metres.

New drive for the all-electric ID. family: more performance and higher efficiency
image.thumb.png.43008f0e2cd19a148ed76961035e9dfd.png

The next electric drive generation for the ID. family is now being launched. With the new APP550 rear-wheel drive, Volkswagen’s electric model family will receive a completely newly developed power unit. In future, this will offer higher performance combined with improved efficiency for the ID. models. The ID. family will therefore benefit both in terms of power and increased range. Volkswagen is planning to deliver the first vehicles with the new drive generation in a 210 kW (286 PS) version from the end of the year.

The design basis for the new drive remains the modular electric drive (MEB) matrix, Volkswagen’s vehicle architecture tailored specifically for electric models. Karsten Bennewitz, Head of Powertrain and Energy Systems in Development: “Because the available space has not changed, we were compelled to develop a new drive that achieves significant improvements in performance and efficiency in spite of being subject to the same constraints. That was a great challenge for the team of Technical Development and Group Components. The result shows that we were able to reduce the use of raw materials, while at the same time achieving a considerable increase in vehicle efficiency.”

More power and significantly more torque

The new powertrain has an output of 210 kW (286 PS) with a maximum torque of around 550 Nm – depending on the vehicle’s gear ratio. The significantly higher torque in particular ensures superior power development – both from standstill and at higher speeds. The new APP550 electric drive achieves its high torque thanks to an enhanced stator with a higher effective number of windings and a larger wire cross-section. The rotor as its counterpart is equipped with a more powerful permanent magnet that has a higher load capacity. The drive was also reinforced to withstand the considerable torques produced.

Inverter delivers high currents

The current is a decisive factor for the power of an electric drive. As a further important component, the inverter was developed so that it is able to supply the high phase currents needed for greater power and efficiency. It acts as the controlling “brain” in the powertrain whose functional software ensures efficient system processes. This applies to the clock frequencies and the modulation methods for generation of the alternating current for the electric drive motor, for example. The drive motor can therefore operate more efficiently, depending on the load phase.

Optimised thermal management through intelligent cooling

In order to increase the efficiency of the electric drive, Volkswagen optimised a number of components in the powertrain, including the thermal management system. The new drive therefore has an energy-saving cooling system that operates without an electrically driven oil pump. The system is able to independently cool itself via the gear wheels of the gearbox and specially formed components for oil supply and distribution. The heated oil is cooled by the vehicle’s coolant circuit, which keeps the drive at operating temperature. The outside of the stator is equipped with a water heat sink.

Volkswagen Kassel as the production centre for the electric powertrain

The drive system with gearbox, rotor and stator will be produced at the Volkswagen Group Components plant in Kassel. Alexander Krick, Head of Technical Development E-Drive, Power Electronics & Transmission at Group Components: “We have been developing electric drive motors and their gearboxes for 15 years now, and have also been producing them here at our location for over 10 years.” Product and process innovations in the electric drive motor and gearbox result in a significant increase in efficiency and performance. Krick: “Drawing on our many years of experience, we optimised the overall system through, among other things, the use of special electrical sheets and customised machining processes, and were thus able to significantly increase efficiency.”

Celebrating the birthday of an icon: Volkswagen presents limited-edition Polo GTI Edition 25

image.thumb.png.4aa3cc9598f337f413148ccbb203f498.png

25 years of the Polo GTI! – To mark this anniversary, Volkswagen is launching the special-edition model Polo GTI Edition 25. It was in 1998 that the Polo first added those three iconic letters to its name: GTI. Now, a quarter of a century after the launch of the Polo III GTI, VW presents a limited edition of the current 152 kW (207 PS) Polo GTI. The powerful drive is impressive, but it’s not the only thing that stands out about this sporty compact car: with features including sports suspension, the electronic differential lock XDS, a comprehensive range of standard equipment and some special design highlights, the anniversary model is something special. The Polo GTI Edition 25 will be available to order in Germany from 1 June, priced at €35,205.

Just like its “older sibling” the Golf GTI , the Polo has a long history and a number of sporty predecessors: VW is now marking a quarter of a century of the Polo GTI with the special anniversary model Polo GTI Edition 25, limited to 2,500 units. “Volkswagen has a rich heritage and the Polo is one of our most iconic vehicles”, says Imelda Labbé, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and After Sales. “GTI fans are very important to us and our anniversary model is a way of marking this milestone together with them: celebrating 25 years of power, performance, sportiness, and fun driving in the Polo class.”

image.thumb.png.760e777587419771e58c9f7cbd52ec5b.png

Performance and vehicle handling: The powerful two-litre TSI engine offering 152 kW (207 PS) and a torque of 320 Nm propels the front-wheel drive Polo GTI Edition 25 from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds. In addition, the model is equipped with a specially tuned sports suspension as standard. This lowers the body by 15 millimetres and, in combination with the electronic differential lock XDS, ensures the synthesis of excellent driving dynamics, improved traction and precise handling that is typical of GTI models.

image.thumb.png.d734b3872eb5709c2c8cd4f68e89ecbf.png

Exclusive anniversary equipment: The new special model also visually underlines its exceptional position: It has the classic GTI look, with red brake calipers and trim strips, a honeycomb design on the radiator grille and chrome-plated tailpipes. And that’s not all: the Polo GTI Edition 25 has a host of other exclusive equipment features including 18-inch Adelaide alloy wheels in Black Glossy, a black roof and black exterior mirrors, all of which help create its sporty look. The interior is equipped as standard with premium sport seats in perforated black-red leather finished off with stitched GTI logos, and glossy black decorative trim with red GTI lettering. Owners will be reminded that their vehicle is one of a limited number by the “One of 2500” logo on the sill panel trim. In addition to the GTI colours Pure White, Kings Red Metallic, Reef Blue Metallic, Smoke Grey Metallic and Deep Black Pearl Effect, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is also available in Ascot Grey.

Innovative technologies: Features that come as standard include IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights with Dynamic Light Assist and LED daytime running lights which ensure highly homogeneous illumination of the road. There is also the multifunction sports steering wheel in leather with paddles and the “25” logo, as well as a number of assist systems that belong to higher vehicle classes. The optional Travel Assist forms part of the IQ.DRIVE assist package and allows for partly automated driving. The Travel Assist system can take over steering, braking and acceleration of the new Polo GTI at speeds from 0 km/h up to the system’s limit of 210 km/h. To do so, Travel Assist relies on familiar systems including Adaptive Cruise Control for longitudinal guidance, and Lane Assist (fitted as standard) for lateral guidance.

The first generation – Polo III GTI

A look back at 25 years of the Polo GTI: When it launched back in 1979, the GT variant of the first Polo product line caused quite a stir. But it wasn’t until 1998 and the third Polo generation that the car was allowed to bear the iconic three letters. VW limited production of the first Polo GTI to 3,000 units and announced not long afterwards that the model was sold out. The next GTI version appeared several years later in 2006. The 132 kW (180 PS) Cup Edition was a true treat for fans as it was visually based on the racing cars used in the Polo Cup.

Then there was the fifth generation from 2010: the 1.4-litre TSI engine with turbo and supercharging proved to be a hit with GTI enthusiasts, and won over new fans too. The successor in 2014 was a force to be reckoned with: the brand new TSI engine offered 141 kW (192 PS) and top speeds of 236 km/h.

The Polo continued to evolve, and the GTI tradition evolved with it: the sixth Polo generation from 2021 set new standards for compact cars. It was based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB), which stands for technological progress across all product lines as well as high body strength, exemplary low vehicle weight and excellent crash properties.

image.thumb.png.b4ca76a5b6856bb8c1b21e07ece4e627.png

South Africa – The home of the Polo GTI: Like the majority of other Polo models, the Polo GTI Edition 25 is manufactured in Kariega (South Africa). “Our team in South Africa is really proud of this car”, says Martina Biene, Managing Director and Chairperson of Volkswagen Group South Africa (VWSA). “The Polo has a long tradition here – especially the Polo GTI.” The factory, opened in 1951, is located near Port Elizabeth and is the largest car plant on the African continent. VWSA produces the Polo Vivo, the Polo and – exclusively – the Polo GTI.

New technologies, more comfort: Volkswagen presents the new Touareg
image.thumb.png.54b39ff6686ae3e38b9ab316e4d5a683.png

Volkswagen is upgrading the third generation of the Touareg with extensive improvements: the suspension as well as the display and operating concept of the full-size SUV have been revised, and the front and rear design have been sharpened. Particularly striking features are the newly developed HD matrix headlights at the front and the LED taillights, which are realised as a light strip. For the first time in Germany it incorporates a red-illuminated Volkswagen logo. Presales will begin tomorrow on Thursday, 25 May. Prices start from €69,200.

Imelda Labbé, Member of the Volkswagen Board of Management for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales: “The new Touareg impresses with top quality and outstanding comfort. We have once again systematically implemented the wishes of our customers in this model: We have sharpened up the design, integrated an illuminated rear logo, and made operation even more intuitive. We've also enhanced the driving characteristics, making our premium Volkswagen even better. The result is a true all-rounder that will excite on-road, off-road and naturally also as a first-class towing vehicle.”

Future-oriented technologies have always made their debut in the Touareg – know-how that often benefits the smaller vehicle classes. Kai Grünitz, Member of the Volkswagen Board of Management for Development: “The Touareg has always been a technology pioneer for us, allowing us to transfer new developments into other brand models as part of a top-down strategy. And we are following the same approach with the new Touareg. It is the first Volkswagen model to be launched with the newly developed HD matrix headlights – one of the best lighting systems in the world. More than 38,000 interactive LEDs project a light carpet exactly onto the driving lane and illuminate the road more precisely than ever before. We will soon transfer this HD matrix lighting system to next smaller SUV-class models.”

The new lighting system. Another advantage of the new optional IQ.LIGHT HD matrix headlights is the glare-free main beam: this continuous main beam can permanently be left switched on outside of towns because the interactive LEDs make sure that the masking area for oncoming traffic and vehicles driving in front is more precise than ever before.

image.thumb.png.303bb0b6ca212a1c3a8c8594cd1af3e2.png

Sharpened design. The new premium SUV can be recognised immediately by the new front and rear design. At the front, the unit formed by the radiator grille, headlights and the front apron have been given a new look. The design of the rear end is also sharper: it now has a continuous horizontal LED strip for the taillight clusters and incorporates a Volkswagen logo which is illuminated in red. For the first time this feature has been included on a Volkswagen model in Germany. Previously, the illuminated brand logo was permitted only in markets such as China and the US.

All-in-one – maximum travel comfort & optimum performance. Volkswagen has enhanced the suspension of the Touareg. Among other things, the Touareg is now equipped as standard with a new roof load sensor that is closely integrated with the suspension electronics. If a roof load is detected, it allows the control system such as ESC (Electronic Stability Control) to intervene earlier in order to increase driving stability. In contrast, if there is no roof load, the system allows for even sportier performance. Depending on the version, the Touareg is available with innovative suspension technologies such as active roll compensation (adaptive running gear) and all-wheel steering. This further improves the driving dynamics of the premium SUV.

image.thumb.png.806174d00f56a57f9e3811db3d74eaec.png

Update for the interior. The standard equipment of the new Touareg also includes the Innovision Cockpit. This consists of the Digital Cockpit and the high-end infotainment system Discover Pro Max. Various functions of the Innovision Cockpit, such as lane-level navigation and high-resolution HD map data, have been optimised in the new model. The standard voice control has also been enhanced. USB-C connections with a charging capacity of 45 watts (previously 15 watts) permit significantly faster charging of electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets or laptops. In addition, by evaluating customer feedback, the high-quality level of the Touareg interior has been further improved. For example, the centre console trims are now softer than before, providing extra comfort.

Efficient driving assistance systems. The Touareg is equipped with a large number of convenience and assistance systems as standard. In addition, an extensive range of optional systems is available. These include among others the following technologies

“Travel Assist”(assisted driving up to maximum speed)
“Park Assist Plus with remote control” (via app for automatically driving into and out of parking spaces, the driver can even control the parking procedure from outside the vehicle),
“Trailer Assist”(for assisted manoeuvring with trailer)
“Night Vision” (assistance for night drives)

Wide choice of powertrainsas petrol, diesel, or plug-in hybrid. The new Touareg will be launched in five powertrain versions. In addition to a turbocharged petrol engine, there is a choice of two turbodiesel engines and two plug-in hybrids. All highly efficient engines are paired as standard with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and the 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive.

Equipment. The new model will be launched in Germany in a basic version with the current front design (from €69,200) and in the two exclusive lines “Elegance” (from €75,070) and “R-Line” (from €79,660). Positioned above is the top-of-the-range model: the sporty, elegant Touareg R eHybrid developed by Volkswagen R (from €93,870).

image.thumb.png.d4ba939ebdee889a11f4ae0fd74fcbdd.png

The Touareg R eHybrid – the performance model from Volkswagen R. The Touareg R eHybrid is the top-of-the-range model of the product line with the most powerful drive system: a V6 petrol engine plus electric motor with a system output of 340 kW (462 PS)01. The latest generation continues a long tradition of Touareg R models with high-tech features and customised equipment. They were all developed by Volkswagen R, Volkswagen’s premium performance brand. The standard equipment of the new model includes the following:

  • Blue painted brake calipers with silver R logo
  • R logo projection via exterior mirror housings as surround lighting
  • Blue accents in the interior
  • Leather seats in “Vienna” design (“Puglia” optional)
  • 20-inch alloy wheels “Braga”
  • Sill panel mouldings with illuminated R logo
  • Vehicle key with leather-covered cap and R logo
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • 4-zone automatic air control

In addition to the traditional R colour “Lapiz Blue Metallic”, a matt paint finish, the new “Silicon Gray Matt", can now also be ordered exclusively for the Touareg R eHybrid and the Touareg R-Line. Pre-sales of the performance model will start on 22 June.

image.thumb.png.e79023eeb4b6b836a340b21f883fc83f.png

The success story of the popular premium SUV. In 2002, the Touareg was the first SUV from Volkswagen. With the impetus of the new top model, the Volkswagen brand subsequently developed into one of the leading global full-range providers. The Touareg also became the pioneer of an extremely successful vehicle type that is today offered by Volkswagen in every segment. With its high-quality blend of long-distance, towing and off-road vehicle, the model remains hugely popular. More than 1.13 million units have been sold since the Touareg was first introduced in 2002.

Volkswagen to unveil 3-row ID. Buzz on June 2 at event paying homage to the VW Bus of old

image.thumb.png.05262984c9bad5dc0f2f4b73f834d627.png

The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has been out in Europe for a while already, but a recent teaser revealed that a three-row electric VW Bus is coming to the US with an announcement due on June 2. Launching in collaboration with International Day Calendar, the new Type 2 electric bus will pay homage to the original Volkswagen Bus/Kombi/Transporter on VW Bus Day in Huntington Beach, California on June 2.

Volkswagen has partnered with International Day Calendar to create International Volkswagen Bus Day on June 2. The first celebration will take place in Huntington Beach, California, where Volkswagen will debut the American version of the all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz (via Electric Cars Report). While the European version of the ID. Buzz is a short-wheelbase five-seater van reminiscent of the VW Bus of old, the US version will feature three rows of seats instead.

The new US version of the ID. Buzz will feature a longer wheelbase to accommodate a third row for more passengers. In theory, a longer wheelbase would allow Volkswagen to include a larger battery pack than the 82 kWh one available in the extant European version, but VW has been mum on technical specifications about the LWB ID. Buzz. The brand will let fans take the new all-electric ID. Buzz for a test drive at the event, though.

If Volkswagen expects US buyers to use the ID. Buzz for family road trips, it would make sense for the vehicle to receive a range upgrade, but we'll have to wait until June 2 to find out. What we can expect with some certainty is that the same motor setup will be used, giving buyers the option of 150 kW (204 hp) rear-wheel drive trim and an AWD GTX variant with 246 kW (335 hp).
As part of the launch celebrations, Volkswagen has invited owners of classic VW Buses to participate in what it's calling "Busses and Coffee." The meet-up event will pay homage to classic VW Buses and allow owners of classic Type 2 buses to strut their stuff at the event.

Cateva din cauzele problemei:

2. Normele de poluare drastice la nivel UE. In esenta este foarte bine sa faci asta, totusi daca cu aceasta ocazie tehnologia te forteaza la cresterea preturilor in zone aberante parca ceva lipseste din ecuatie.

Si fraza cheie din tot acest articol "For example, the all-electric ID.3 hatchback’s price has been slashed to just $17,500 in China, making it half as expensive as in Europe, where it starts at roughly $36,000 without tax."

$17,500, atat este pretul unei masini echivalente ID3 in China !!!!

In schimb, masina arata interesant ramane de vazut cum va fi in varianta finala.

Multumim!
